[Un] Grabado de Claude Gellée, más conocido en como Claudio de Lorena o Claude Lorrain (Francia, 1600 - Roma, 1605), pintor francés de renombre establecido en Italia. Perteneciente al período del arte barroco, se enmarca en la corriente denominada clasicismo. Ante todo, fue un destacado y respetado paisajita. Pero, antes de consagrarse como artista, fue pastelero.
Reunió todos sus dibujos en su obra titulada "Liber Veritatis, collection of prints after the original designs of Claude le Lorrain in the Collection of his grace the Duke of Devonshire", a la que pertenece este grabado.

He was an outstanding and respected landscaper. But, before consecrating himself as an artist, he was a pastry cook.
